4 Benefits of a Circular Economy

Most of us can feel that we are driving down a dead end road. The linear economic model, our current vehicle, will inevitably fly over the edge beyond the point of no return. It is a one-way system based on a take, make, consume, and dispose of approach.

This approach helped us grind our way out of oblivion, and through the industrial revolution, but will not deliver the sustainable future we desire for our grandchildren.

A circular economy is the future. This model is based on minimizing the extraction of raw materials and replacing them with resources locked up and forgotten in our waste. Combined with the use of renewable energy, reduced emissions, and greater industry efficiency, a circular economy provides our best chance to live within the bounds of the Earth’s capacity.

Four key benefits and advantages of a circular economy are:

  • Creation of new green industries and jobs
  • Reduced dependence on the importation of raw materials
  • Avoidance of environmental damage caused by resource extraction
  • Less pollution entering the earth’s life support systems

To transition to a circular economy and unlock these benefits, we must all push for change. We need to show government and industry that a circular economy is the future.

Change starts with the little decisions we make in everyday life. For example, deciding to put a piece of rubbish in the recycling bin. This is a small but effective way to help push the economy in a circular motion, leading to numerous circular economy economic benefits and advantages.

  1. You made an interesting point when you mentioned that one of the benefits of a circular economy is that it creates more jobs and green industries. In my opinion, it is very important that we do everything we can to help preserve the Earth. I’m going to have to do some more research and see what kind of products I can purchase that would help support a circular economy.
