Team-building has long been used to strengthen personnel and boost enthusiasm among employees. Usually, team-building exercises involve games, ice-breakers, or even friendly office competitions. There a plenty of activities teams can participate in that still hold team building as a priority but have a more environmentally friendly focus. Using environmentally conscious activities as team-building exercises not only brings your team closer but also promotes sustainability within the company and sets a great example for employees to carry into their everyday lives.
Beach or Park Clean Up
Gather up the team and head to a nearby park or green space! Spend an hour or so cleaning up litter and beautifying the area. Group clean-up excursions are a great way to grab a breath of fresh air away from the office, as well as give your team a chance to take care of the local habitat.
Recycling Competitions
Sometimes a little friendly competition is a great way to teach and encourage sustainability in the office. Give each employee their own recycling bin and measure who collects and correctly sorts the most recyclable items. Prizes, like free lunch or coffee, are a great incentive to motivate activities like this!
Group Donation
The textile industry is surprisingly wasteful, and its impact on the environment is impossible to deny. Organize a clothing drive where staff brings in clothing to donate and/or recycle. It’s a great way for them to clean out their own closets while helping to reduce waste.
So, the next time you are planning team-building exercises think about ways to make them fun, effective and environmentally friendly!
