Setting up a recycling bin can be a great way to help reduce your and your customers’ environmental impact. In fact, recycling in the US alone provides carbon savings equal to removing 36 million cars from the road per year.
In more encouraging news, the materials you can easily recycle by installing recycling bins in your local business are among the most efficient materials you can recycle. So if you’re thinking of installing a recycling bin, make sure it can take the following materials:
Aluminum: Aluminum cans are among the most ubiquitous recyclable material we use. The good news, though, is that aluminum can be recycled endlessly, since the material doesn’t lose its integrity after multiple uses. The greatest news, though, is that manufacturing cans from recycled aluminum uses 95% less energy than if virgin materials were used.
Glass: While glass isn’t used as commonly as aluminum, it can be recycled just as many times – that is, infinitely. Most glass bottles are recycled back into new bottles, and the process of producing recycled bottles can use up to 70% recycled material.
Paper: Paper makes up the largest portion of the municipal waste stream, and fortunately, is also the most recycled. Recycled paper production consumes only 60% of the energy that producing paper from virgin wood pulp does. While paper cannot be recycled indefinitely, it’s still good for up to seven cycles – an impressive number of uses, nonetheless!
